Meyerland

Meyerland is a 6,000-acre, deed-restricted community in southwest Houston, Texas, outside of the 610 Loop West. Right off of Beechnut, it's a convenient location with easy access to Uptown, the Medical Center, and Downtown. Many of the homes were built in the 1950s, but many of these original homes have been remodeled and replaced with new, modern construction. The neighborhood is named after the Meyer family, who bought and owned 6,000 acres (24 km²) of land in southwest Houston. In 1955, George Meyer developed 1,200 acres of what was formerly rice fields into the Meyerland subdivision. Richard Nixon himself was at the subdivision's ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Meyerland is located in the Houston Independent School District. It's zoned to the nationally acclaimed Bellaire High School. The neighborhood elementary schools are Kolter Elementary School, Lovett Elementary School, and Herod Elementary School which are all located in Meyerland. The neighborhood is also served by Johnston Middle School, Pershing Middle School, and Pin Oak Middle School.
